Finding the Gold in the Fire

When the discovery is made that a relationship is having an affair, often there is chaos, stress and anger at the one in the affair. Little effort is made to understand what has happened, rather all the energy is expressed as blaming and criticism at the one in the affair. This rupture has contaminated the “Space Between” and the perceived connections between the partners are lost. Since the affair is seen as a complaint against the partner for acting outside of the relationship, we will look for the “Gold” and the unmet needs that are driving this behavior, this rupture. In this series, we will present a therapeutic perspective that can form the basis for understanding why there is so much “Gold” to be discovered. Secondly, Rebecca will look at mining the “Gold” when this couple comes into the therapist's office in their chaotic state. And thirdly, Kobus will look at the experience of disconnection that describes the movement from perceived disconnection to transformation.
